Everyone deserves a clean, safe space to call their own, especially when life doesn’t go as planned. For someone who has lost their home, entering a shelter can feel like hitting the lowest point in their lives. It can be heartbreaking, dehumanizing, and lonely. For these individuals, Pillars offers a chance at a clean start.
A clean start happens the moment you walk through Pillars’ doors. The staff welcomes everyone with compassion, understanding, and support. Equally as important is a welcoming space. Dignity comes from the simplest comforts—such as a fresh, clean floor to walk on, a warm bath, or a functioning bathroom. While many take these amenities for granted, those who have lost their home do not.
People experiencing homelessness in the Fox Cities deserve a clean start—an environment that not only offers shelter but also a sense of dignity and hope. Pillars has secured an Emergency Housing Grant from the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Administration (WHEDA) to begin this project, but the need is much greater.
Your donation will provide essential improvements, including:
New Flooring in Two Common Areas: The current carpet flooring is worn, damaged, and no longer safe or hygienic for the individuals and families who rely on this space. Pillars will replace the carpet with easy-to-clean, non-porous laminate, creating a bright, welcoming space where people can gather, rest, play, and rebuild.
An Added Bathtub and New Toilet: The private family bathroom currently lacks a bathtub, leaving only the shared women’s bathroom available for bathing. As a result, there is no designated private space for parents to bathe their children and fathers a left without any option for bathing their kids. These basic facilities are vital for personal care and to help restore a sense of normalcy and comfort. Additionally, the current toilet is outdated and no longer functions at a level that meets the needs of our residents.
Plumbing Repairs: Clean water and proper plumbing are critical to health and well-being. Your gift will ensure that our shelter has the modern plumbing needed to keep everyone safe and healthy.
General Maintenance and Repairs: Your support will go toward fresh paint, elevator repairs, new water heaters, and other essential maintenance, which all contribute toward creating a healthy environment.
