At Pillars, we know that everyone’s situation is unique. We designed Giving Tree in a way that allows you maximum flexibility to personalize the drive in a way that works best for your site. Collection Dates
Choose a collection date range that fits your site’s schedule. We recommend choosing dates between Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving) and Sunday, December 15th.
Collection Sites
When setting up your collection site, choose a method that reflects the space you have and what will appeal to your members. Consider:
- Decorating a “Giving Tree” with ornaments that list an item from the wish list. Participants remove an ornament, buy the item, and place it (unwrapped) under the tree the next time they visit your site.
- Distribute copies of the wish list to participants – paper or electronically. Participants can choose item(s) off the list, and place them in a designated drop-off location.
- Decorating a collection box to match your holiday theme is always a popular choice, and helps make transporting items to us easier!
- Focus your drive on just a few items from the wish list (i.e. food, personal hygiene, bedding, household goods, etc.) that will resonate with your members.
- Already planning a holiday festivities? Invite donors to bring items along to the event you are hosting!
- Minimal space? Run a gift card drive! This works especially well if you also participate in script fundraising.
Drop-Off Dates
Pillars lacks the capacity to pick up donations from every Giving Tree site, and requests that you arrange for items to be dropped off at Pillars Administrative Office & Community Room (605 E Hancock St, Appleton – part of the old Wire Works apartments off Lawe St.) between December 16- 19. We will have staff or volunteers available to assist with unloading your vehicle & documenting your donation during designated drop-off times:
- Monday, Dec. 16: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, Dec. 17: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, Dec. 18: 7:30 – 10:00 a.m.
- Thursday, Dec. 19: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Dropping items off during these times helps ensure they are properly documented, and that we can share a Drive Total with you in late December! Items dropped off directly at one of our shelters still help fill our clients’ needs – but for logistical reasons will not be included in Drive Totals.
